HDPE film has to be able to take the strain of the weight of the products which it carries. For this reason, tensile strength and elongation are important factors. HDPE Film generally has a tensile strength of around 4200 psi, and can elongate over 400% before it hits breaking point.
HDPE Film is used for carrier bags, and also for food contact applications. HDPE film is not an oxygen barrier however, so it is not suitably for applications where the packaging is required to be air tight. On the plus side, due to its dense and linear molecular structure, HDPE film is highly impact resistant, and strong, which means that it is an excellent material for carrier bags which are used to carry heavy loads from place to place.
